Mitte Altona Neighborhood School
Short description
New construction of the Kurt Tucholsky School in Hamburg’s Altona district on the site of a former freight yard. The modern school building includes classrooms, administrative offices, and sports facilities, as well as rooftop areas featuring a schoolyard and a school garden.
The project
A new building for the Kurt-Tucholsky Secondary School is being constructed in a new residential neighborhood in Hamburg’s Altona district. The 3,500 m² construction site is located on the former freight yard, directly adjacent to the railroad tracks.
Spread over a total of six stories, the building will feature general classrooms, specialized classrooms, spaces for teachers and administration, common areas, and three gymnasiums with a total usable floor area of 1,800 m².
A vertical foyer forms the heart of the building. The foyer consists of a curved staircase with two flights.
Due to space constraints, the schoolyard and school garden are located on the rooftops of the 3rd and 4th floors.
