MIN Forum Hamburg

Short description

The MIN Forum Hamburg, together with the new computer science building, is creating a modern campus for the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Natural Sciences (MIN) at the University of Hamburg. The project establishes forward-looking spaces for teaching, research, and collaboration, and strengthens Hamburg’s position as a center of science in the long term.

The project

The MIN Forum Hamburg is part of the ongoing development of the university campus for the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Natural Sciences.

Together with the new building for computer science, modern facilities are being created that meet the needs of research, teaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The new facilities provide a state-of-the-art infrastructure for students, researchers, and staff. Bringing various departments together promotes academic exchange and further enhances the location’s appeal.

The project thus makes an important contribution to the long-term development of the University of Hamburg.

At the MIN-Forum Hamburg, various prestressing solutions were used for slabs, beams, and walls. The flat slabs from the 1st to the 6th floor were prestressed with approximately 38.7 metric tons of monofilaments without composite action, with the tendons delivered to the construction site as precast elements. Above the large lecture hall, wall-like beams with bonded prestressing and tendons ranging from 25 to 30 meters in length were installed to safely support the heavy loads. In addition, vertical tendons were integrated into the walls, thereby increasing the structure’s stability and load-bearing capacity. The extensive supply of prestressing steel, prestressing anchors, and fixed anchors ensured a cost-effective and efficient implementation of the project.
