Unstruttal bridge, Germany

As part of the new Erfurt-Halle/Leipzig motorway, the Unstruttal bridge crosses the sprawling Unstruttal valley north of the Karsdorf and Wetzendorf communities. The construction of the Unstruttal bridge will be carried out using the most up to-date civil engineering. The track runs along a succession of joints and bearingless reinforced concrete beams. At the ends the temperature deformation will be absorbed by special devices.

In a former open pit the soil must be dynamically compacted. The track supports are made from a prestressed concrete superstructure in sections from the two endpoints to the abutments. So-called falsework works alongside this intermittently over the valley. The pillars and arches are built in advance which then support the final superstructure.
