A new ‘Citybanan’ train line expansion program is currently under construction within the city of Stockholm. This technical and logistic challenging project involves the construction of tunnels (Söderströmstunnel) as well as overpass bridges crossing the city’s existing road highway network.
When works are complete it is expected the new train network will have doubled the original network capacity.
In the region between Årsta and Älvsjö a new 1,4 km long bridge is being constructed, which when complete will be the seventh longest bridge in Sweden. During the design phase an evaluation undertaken by the Project Designer and Contractor in conjunction with BBV Systems determined the BBV L27 strand post tensioning system was the most economical solution for the project.
The construction of the bridge is performed by casting the structure in thirty-eight (38) individual segments. Each of the bridge segments contains eight (8) longitudinal BBV L27 tendons, which effectively run continuously over the length of the structure. Four of the tendons are stressed using a fixed coupler system in the bridge segment, whilst the alternate four (4) tendons are stressed in the adjacent segment.
